HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORTS MASSAGE

Cyrus is Nationally Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage, State Certified by the State of California Massage Therapy Council, an honors graduate of the National Holistic Institute College of Massage Therapy and Health Education, Active Release Technique-Upper Extremity, Myofascia Decompression Technique I (MDT), a Certified LaStone® Therapy Practitioner, Professional Member of the American Massage Therapy Association, an Associate Member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, a member of USA Swimming, Pacific Swimming, and the Lake Merritt Joggers & Striders Club of Oakland.  He is also certified in Adult CPR/AED & Standard First Aid with the American Red Cross.

He is trained in both eastern and western modalities [Sports Massage, Swedish Massage, Thai Massage, Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi Massage, Shiatsu, LaStone® Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Golfer’s Massage, Polarity Massage, Reflexology, Aroma Therapy, and Pregnancy Massage; And, uses the techniques of Active Release Technique-UE, Myofascial Decompression Technique (MDT), Trigger Point Therapy, Joint Mobilization, Positional Release, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) for sport specific stretching; this allows him to creatively blend and skillfully fuse his diverse knowledge in therapeutic massage, to meet the needs and goals of each unique client service.

Presently, in 2022, Cyrus was awarded a contract with the Major League Baseball Team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

2020, Cyrus was selected to both USA Swimming and USA Wrestling Medical Staffs, for the 2021 Tokyo, Japan Olympics, where he provided massage therapy to athletes at the Olympic Village, Olympic Swimming Pool and the Olympic Wrestling Arena. 

In 2016, Cyrus Poitier was selected to the USA Swimming Medical Staff, for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games for TeamUSA Men’s and Women’s Swimming, in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.  In 2012, he was appointed to the Medical Staff, by the United States Olympic Committee, for London Olympic Games, in London, England where he provided massage therapy to multiple TeamUSA Sports in the Olympic Village.  In 2014, he was selected by the USOC Sports Medicine Division as a massage therapist, at the Dave Schultz International Wrestling Tournament, at the Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, CO.

 

In 2009, he was selected by the United States Olympic Committee to work in rotation as a volunteer Massage Therapist, at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.  During his rotation, he worked on athletes in the Olympic Sports of Freestyle Wrestling, Greco Wrestling, Weightlifting, Bobsled, Skeleton, Men's Gymnastics, Speed Skating, Triathlon, Shooting, Figure Skating, Judo, Snowboard, and Inline Skating. 

 

Meanwhile, he has been appointed by USA Wrestling seven consecutive years as the official Team Massage Therapist for the United States Men's Freestyle Wrestling World Team, at the, FILA 2014 World Wrestling Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, FILA 2013 World Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary, 2012 London Olympic Games, FILA 2011 World Wrestling Championship in Istanbul, Turkey, 2010 FILA World Wrestling Championship in Moscow, Russia, and 2009 FILA World Wrestling Championships in Herning, Denmark; Also, In 2012 USA vs. Russia Dual Meet in Time Square, New York City, the XXI Miedzynarodowy World Cup Tournament in Siedlce, Poland, and the Golden Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan.

 

USA Swimming selected Cyrus to the Sports Medicine Team, for the USA Swimming World Team, at the 2015 FINA World Championships, in Kazan, Russia and 2013 FINA World Championships, in Barcelona, Spain.  In 2011, he was a member of the USOC Sports Medicine Team, at the 2011 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico.  He was assigned exclusively to USA Swimming as a USOC Sports Medicine Team Massage Therapist.  In 2010, he completed an internship with USA Swimming as the official Team Massage Therapist for USA Swimming National Team Members, at the 2010 Santa Clara International Grand Prix.  After completing his internship, Cyrus was awarded the prestigious USA Swimming High Performance Award.  Currently, he is a registered High Performance Massage Therapy Member on the USA Swimming Sports Medicine and Science Network.  He was also selected as a member of the USA Swimming Sports Medicine and Science Team, at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championship, at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where he was assigned exclusively to National and World Team Members.

 

Cyrus was a member of the University of California Berkeley Recreational Sports Facility CALMassage Sports Team where he worked on assignment with CAL Athletics Intercollegiate Sports [NCAA D1 & PAC12].  He completed eight seasons performing sports massage with CAL Football; five seasons with CAL Women's Swimming & Diving [2011, 2012, 2015 NCAA D1 Champions, 2012, 2014, 2015 PAC12 Champions]; June 2016 & 2012 he traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, for the USA Swimming Visa Olympic Swimming Trials as the Team Massage Therapist for CAL Aquatics Club Women's Team; He also worked with Cal Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball, Men's & Women's Track & Field, Men's Soccer [2010 PAC10 Champions], Women's Tennis, and Women's Waterpolo.

 

He has worked Northern California/Nevada Cycling events such as the Ronde Von Brisbeen Criterium, Benicia Criterium, Davis 4TH of July Criterium, The Oakland Grand Prix, San Rafael Twilight Criterium, Innagural Lodi Criterium, Navato Criterium, Albany Criterium. And Running events such as 2005 San Francisco Marathon, and the NIKE Club Run. 

 

In 2013, Cyrus became the first Team Massage Therapist for Saint Mary’s College Men’s Basketball team, a member of the West Coast Conference [WCC], in Moraga, California, and the UC Davis Football team, a member of the Big Sky Conference [BSC]. He was also a volunteer massage therapist for the inaugural San Francisco Bulls, a Premier AA East Coast Hockey League [ECHL] team.

 

Cyrus has 15 years experience working in private practice, sports clubs, massage clinics, and luxury hotels such as The Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley, Spa at Silverado Resort & Country Club, Health Spa St. Helena, and The Claremont Resort & Spa. 

 

As a weekend warrior, Cyrus enjoys running.  In 2011, he completed the Northern California Half Marathon Series (4 Half Marathons).  In January 2012, he ran the Walt Disney World 15th Anniversary Donald Duck Half Marathon in Orlando, FL.  He also enjoys weightlifting, knitting, piano, sewing, birdwatching, and photography.
